Om företaget / verksamheten
LKAB is an international, high-tech mining and minerals group that mines and processes iron ore in northern Sweden for the global steel market. Sustainability is the core of our business, and our ambition is to be one of the industry's most innovative, resource-efficient and responsible companies. The group had sales for more than SEK 23 billion (USD 2.5 billion) in 2017 and employs about 4,100 people in 13 countries. Further group businesses include industrial minerals, drilling systems, rail transport, rockwork services and property management.
LKAB is currently expanding the exploration programs close to the mines in Kiruna, Malmberget and Svappavaara, and in the surrounding region. The focus is iron ore deposits, and as these can be located at depth, the use of geophysics is crucial.
As a geophysicist at the exploration department you will plan and implement geophysical measurements, which can be performed from the air, on the ground and in boreholes. Geophysical data processing, interpretation and writing reports are essential components of the work. The positions involve both office and field work. You will cooperate with geophysicists, geologists, technicians and other colleagues in the company, as well as entrepreneurs. Although exploration is the focus, geophysical expertise support can also be required for projects involving hydrology and rock mechanics. The work can from time to time involve geophysical R&D projects in cooperation with universities or other research institutes.
The positions will be based in our offices in either Kiruna or Malmberget.
We expect a Master degree in geophysics, alternatively an engineering or Earth science education at a similar level containing advanced geophysical courses. Previous mineral exploration experience is a merit. We particularly value good knowledge of electromagnetic and potential field methods, although the successful candidate should be expected to work with a wide range of geophysical methods. Experience from common Earth science software packages such as Geosoft, ModelVision or Maxwell is an advantage, and please also mention any programming experience in the application (e.g. in Matlab, Python or C).
The position requires good communication skills, flexibility, curiosity and a possibility to work independently. Good command of English is essential. Driving license is required.
We can offer positions with many interesting challenges and a possibility to interact with colleagues from many different disciplines. There are many chances for outdoor recreation around Kiruna and Malmberget. The ongoing urban transformation in these communities also creates a dynamic and exciting atmosphere.
