Sustainable purchasing

Conveyor belt in the mine

Sustainable and efficient purchasing are central aspects of LKAB's work to strengthen competitiveness. We choose to work with the most competitive and sustainable suppliers in order thereby to create added value for the Group and, in the long term, for LKAB's customers.

As part of our work to achieve sustainable development, LKAB has developed a number of basic requirements for our suppliers. The requirements are based on guidelines from the UN and the OECD. The purpose is to ensure that we work with suppliers who share our values regarding sustainability, and who have the ambition of being at the forefront in respect of these issues.

Ongoing development work

Through constant improvement work alongside our suppliers, LKAB is contributing to developments within social, financial and environmental sustainability, both for us and our suppliers. In order to become one of LKAB's suppliers, the first step is to accept our Basic Requirements for Suppliers.

A risk assessment of existing and future suppliers is always performed, based on given criteria. If LKAB considers it necessary, the supplier is contacted for further development of the sustainability work.

Values for a long-term collaboration

LKAB has a Supplier Code of Conduct containing clear requirements within areas such as human rights, working and employment conditions, the environment, emergency preparedness, fire protection and business ethics. The requirements reflect our fundamental values, as well as external stakeholders' expectations regarding the long-term, sustainable development of LKAB's business.

The aim of the Supplier Handbook is to provide suppliers with an overall picture of our rules. These rules cover all suppliers who carry out work within LKAB's operations, both within and outside of our industrial areas.
