On Tuesday 19 May, the Land and Environment Court issued its ruling regarding the final conditions for LKAB's operation in Malmberget.
"This is generally a very thorough ruling, and the court has given consideration to all parties in the case," says LKAB's Environment Manager, Linda Bjurholt.
The ultimate order of the court applies to conditions for damming, discharging into water, blasting times, seismic activity, land deformation, noise and vibrations – issues that were deferred when the operation was granted permission in 2007.
"We have received the ruling, which is extremely comprehensive, as expected bearing in mind that the issues are complex. We will now read through it properly, as there are various issues we need to study in greater depth in order to fully understand the consequences for our operation," says Linda Bjurholt.
For example, there are deadlines regarding when various plans and programmes have to be complete that LKAB, at first glance, considers will be difficult to achieve.
