2013 ended well – no accidents necessitating absence and two monthly production records have set us up for a challenging 2014.
The record for a single month was broken in November. We produced 2,462,000 tonnes of finished products compared to the previous record of 2,459,000 tonnes from July 2010. We shipped 2,473,000 tonnes by rail. This was beaten in December when we produced 2,551,000 tonnes of finished products, of which pellets represented 2,317,000 tonnes, which is also a record for a single month.
We also noted the highest quality index for the year at 99.4%, the target being 96%. Total production for the year was 25.3 million tonnes of finished products.
We delivered 25.5 million tonnes of finished products to our customers, compared to 26.3 million tonnes the year before. We lost too much production already at the beginning of the year to be able to catch up. But now we stand ready to regain our customers' confidence. The process optimisation we implemented to secure safe, efficient production is giving results.
Operations and maintenance personnel, greasers, process and maintenance engineers, all categories who have done their part – you can feel proud! Impressive commitment and work have reversed the earlier negative trend with, among other things, several different breakdowns. The turnaround proves that we can do it if we want to and make a concerted team effort with good leadership. This shows that we have the potential!
