LKAB's open pit mines are located in Svappavaara, 40 km southeast of Kiruna. In these open pits, we produce iron ore by drilling, blasting, and then crushing and sorting the ore into a raw material for pellet production, our business includes ore processing in our concentrator and pellet plant. The mine planning section in Svappavaara is responsible for planning of the mining of the deposits in the area, both in the long and short term. We are a multi-disciplinary team employing surveying engineers, rock mechanics, geologists, and mining engineers. Much of the work takes place through collaboration within the mine planning team, but also between different departments.
About the position:
We are looking for a rock mechanic for our mining planning team in Svappavaara!
You will work as part of the Geology and Rock Mechanics Group, reporting to the Group Manger in close collaboration with geologists, rock mechanics and planning engineers to produce rock mechanical decision documents for short- and long-term production planning.
A large part of the work takes place through inspections and monitoring, mapping and other data collection, analyses, follow-up, reporting and presentation, as well as other tasks within the mining planning section in Svappavaara.
A major focus is on rock safety, in addition you will have access to state-of-the-art tools to help fulfill our goals of maintaining a safe and cost-effective mine. Slope monitoring radar, Laser scanner, photogrammetric drone, Maptek’s Vulcan and Point Studio software, Rocscience DIPS, Itasca 3DEC, to name a few.

You should be a collaborative and innovative person who can work closely with colleagues as part of a strong technical team. The position will require that you are responsible and driven but also responsive and flexible. We would like you to speak and write in English and preferably Swedish too, or at least show a willingness to learn Swedish.
You have a relevant academic degree for the position. Relevant experience in the mining industry, infrastructure and production is valued. We will take into consideration all practical and theoretical knowledge in rock mechanics, geotechnics, structural geology and hydrogeology. Good computer and system skills are of high importance to succeed at this position, all knowledge of CAD programs, or similar, is valued.
