Our planned investment in an experimental DR plant is an important means of maintaining a technological lead in this area of application.

The third stage of the ULCOS project’s goal of reducing CO₂ emissions in steel production by 50 per cent is taking place in collaboration with customers at LKAB’s experimental blast furnace.

LKAB will continue its systematic, long-term strategic investments in skills accumulation and supply, especially through collaboration with Luleå University of Technology, the Hjalmar Lundbohm Research Centre, the LKAB Excellence Centre and investments in the LKAB Academy.

Competition is increasing, which means that LKAB’s current lead is threatened. We are working to launch new generations of blast furnace pellets and technologies specially designed for direct reduction. LKAB participates in developments that will reduce CO₂emissions by 80–100 per cent.
