And in combination with the efficient use of resources creates the conditions for sustained competitiveness. LKAB works proactively to come up with solutions that correspond to society’s and the customer’s needs and expectations within these fields.
Important strategic activities
Over time LKAB has progressed from being solely a producer of raw materials to a supplier of processed iron ore pellets. Over the past 10 years LKAB has used foresight and innovation to invest in expertise and facilities to become a purveyor of “Performance in Ironmaking” with a strong brand that is admired by customers, suppliers and competitors alike.
LKAB’s explicit strategy is to grow with its customers with the dual aims of avoiding marginalization in its main markets and strengthening its ability to compete. The strategic investments LKAB made in production infrastructure such as pelletizing plants, railways and harbours between 2004 and 2009 open up entirely new opportunities for the company to grow into one able to deliver 35–40 million tons annually through investments in new mine capacity.
