Products and specifications

LKAB produce iron ore pellets, sinter fines and industrial minerals. The main product, about 80 % of the company’s production is iron ore pellets, used mainly for the production of hot metal in blast furnaces and DRI/HBI in direct reduction processes. LKAB is a world leader in iron ore pelletizing technology. Today, LKAB is operating six pelletizing plants on three different sites witha combined capacity of about 26 Mt.

LKAB’s iron ore products are based on high grade magnetite deposits that are well suited for beneficiation to high grade fines and concentrates. After beneficiation the iron content in the pellet feed is up to 71 % iron containing only a few percent of gaunge material in the products. Our deposits are large and new investments in main haulage levels will maintain the production from the mines until 2025 - 2030. Iron ore pellets are the main product, about 80 – 85 %, but fines production will also continue in the future. The main objective is to deliver high grade iron ore products that give possibilities for our customers to achieve good performance in ironmaking.
