Refining

LKAB processes the ore it extracts and this results in our bringing a range of products of world-class quality to market. Our iron ore pellets are even considered best in class!

This is thanks to the great quality that results from an extremely good raw product and the highest quality workmanship all the way from the mine to the customer. Processing begins with sorting as soon as the product is brought up to the surface.

Dressing

A quantity of waste from the rock surrounding the orebody follows the ore to the surface so the rock and ore must be separated, which takes place magnetically on large conveyor belts. Read more about dressing.

Concentration

The ore is processed further in processing plants on the way to becoming different iron ore products. Read more about concentration.

Pelletization

LKAB’s pelletizing plants convert the slurry into finished iron ore spheres – pellets. The fancy term for the process is agglomeration. Read more about pelletization.
