LKAB supplies highly processed iron ore products for blast furnaces and direct reduction, services to the steel industry, customized minerals for other industries and mining products and technologies.

Pellets

LKAB’s magnetite pellets have high iron content, around 67 per cent, and have a lower environmental impact than competing pellet products and sintered hematite fines. The use of thoroughly tested and balanced additive mixes in pellets production leads to increases in steelworks productivity at the same time as lower energy requirements, the wear and slag volumes are reduced.

Fines

About 80 per cent of LKAB’s production consists of iron ore pellets, the remainder comprises of sinter fines. Fines are a finely ground iron ore sand that must first be agglomerated (sintered) to form larger pieces before they can be used in blast furnaces. Marketing and sales of fines increases LKAB’s ability to meet shifting product demand and market fluctuations. The high iron content in the ore means that sinter fines from LKAB in Malmberget (MAF) are regarded as one of the best in the world.
