We perform metallographic studies, steel analysis and consultation concerning ladle metallurgy, continuous casting and process development. We also provide consultancy services for failure investigation and material studies in the steel area. Our clients include Swedish and international companies.

Our engineers have longstanding experience in the steel industry. We conduct both contract work and training programs in materials science. MetLab is located in Luleå, close to Swerea Mefos, LKAB's experimental blast furnace and Luleå University of Technology.

To be able to take on advanced assignments, we are equipped with state-of-the-art measurement and analysis instruments for metals, iron ore pellets and additives.

LKAB MetLab offers services including:

• determination of slag in steel (quantitative and qualitative)
• heat treatment/hardening in a modern laboratory furnace

Accreditation ensures the high standard of measurement methods and analyses, and that our procedures for each work task guarantee the reliability of results. Swedac performs annual audits to ensure that the standard is maintained.

MetLab is accredited in the following areas:
• hardness testing of metallic materials
• optical emission spectrometry for low-alloyed steels

LKAB MetLab is a member of Arctic Steel Circle, a network with collective expertise in the sheetmetal and steel sectors. The network works to promote collaboration in, for example, product development, production, marketing, and common quality and environmental management systems.
